HTC Flyer Is Unique With Its Touchscreen Stylus

The HTC Flyer is the first tablet device to be released by HTC, the Taiwanese company that is going from strength to strength in the world of smartphones. Released into the ever increasing ranks of Android tablets the Flyer still offers a unique experience due to its smaller sized screen and innovative capacitive stylus.

With the screen measuring just 7″ the Flyer falls into the smaller size category, alongside devices such as the original Samsung Galaxy Tab. While some people may find this less desirable for enjoying video content it does make the Flyer a much more portable device than larger 10″ tablets. The screen is capacitive and comes with multitouch support, and at the same time offers a very sharp resolution of 1024 x 600.

With a 1.5GHz processor the Flyer falls in between the first generation of 1GHz devices and the second generation of dual core tablets when it comes to processing power. This is combined with a generous 1GB RAM that helps to make the Flyer pretty nippy at most activities it supports. The Flyer does not support the latest tablet-centric Honeycomb version of Google Android and instead comes with 2.2 Froyo. This decision was made to allow HTC to implement their own Sense interface, as proprietary interfaces are not supported by Honeycomb Android.

The Flyer comes with a lot of connectivity options including 3G and Wi-Fi, as well as USB and Bluetooth. It is also quad band GSM compliant, meaning that you can use the HTC Flyer to make phone calls. The 1.3 megapixel front facing camera also allows you to make video calls with the HTC Flyer through services such as Google Talk.

The rear facing main camera is 5 megapixels with some excellent features included. As well as capturing photos this camera can be used to record 720p videos. The HTC Flyer comes with 32GB of internal storage space and has a microSD memory expansion slot should you need more. This can be used to contain a great deal of music and videos to enjoy on the Flyer’s media player, and with YouTube support you can enjoy video content online as well.

While the Flyer operates on a capacitive screen HTC have managed to produce a stylus to work alongside it. These were typically only available on less responsive resistive touchscreens as capacitive screens require electrical impulses (as found in your finger) to function properly. This stylus can be used for drawing, writing and all manner of other uses.

The Flyer is an excellent tablet for gaming as well, with support for OnLive gaming. This allows you to connect a controller and use the Flyer as a games console, with many fantastic games available from Android Market. The Flyer can also be used to enjoy videos with SRS surround sound support providing a more cinematic feel.

The Flyer is an excellent debut tablet from HTC, and a perfectly portable device that combines a light weight with extensive features. The tablet is perfect for web browsing, game playing or general entertainment with music and video. With many Android tablets now on offer, one of the things that will really mark the Flyer out from the crowd is it unique capacitive stylus – a feature not found on any other touchscreen device.
